The idea for Askja was discovered when looking for a lightweight storage solution for magazines or logs. Inspiration was taken from the calderas that are situated in a remote part of the central highlands of Iceland. The calderas nest within the surrounding Dyngjufjöll mountains, which rise to 1,510m. The Icelandic word for these calderas is askja, thus becoming the name.
The metal was bent in an asymmetrical shape with one side being wider than the other, thus bringing more attention to the form.
Askja became the first item in the ROOTS collection, where Dögg goes back to her roots in Iceland and uses the shape of the trees, mountains, cracked ice and dried sand as an inspiration for the shapes of her new series.
