Nordic design
Dögg Guðmundsdóttir is an Icelandic designer based in Copenhagen.
Dögg’s vision is to create innovative products with emotional appeal and timeless design. Her focus is to create new designs with historical reference. Material choice is key for Dögg as she develops designs for mass production that utilize time-honored materials with modern production techniques.
Her works are distinctly influenced by the nature of the materials, organic shapes and traditional craftsmanship. Dögg begins her design process with ideas taken directly from nature. Some designs take on a life of their own. Many of her designs are akin to functional sculptures or pieces of art, while others are honed for mass production. The spare language of her style reflects her ability to conceive products with streamlined Scandinavian originality.
Dögg studied industrial design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan. She continued her glass, product and graphic design studies at the Danish Design School and received her master’s degree in design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen with a focus on design management with sustainable innovation and new strategies for large and small producers.
Among the companies Dögg has designed for are Ligne Roset and Christofle in France, Norr 11 in Denmark, B-sweden and Sólóhúsgögn in Iceland.
